Shoulder and Neck Pain

Dr. AJ Siergiej DPT, TPI-M2

A Message From Aj Siergiej DPT, Tpi-M2 Owner & Founder of Athletic Synergy

Everyone we talk to is curious about the following aspects of living with neck and shoulder pain:

“Why Am I Having to Go Through This?” “How Come I Still Have Neck and Shoulder Pain After 6 or More Months of Putting up With It?”

Most people believe that if they have neck or shoulder pain, it will go away on its own. They’ll wake up one morning and it’ll be as if nothing ever happened… But 6 months later, you’re still suffering from pain that’s worse than when it started.

Do You Sound Similar?

When patients see the doctor, they are frequently advised to rest and “try these painkillers to see how they work.” This is a common occurrence in our physical therapy practice. Six weeks later, if the condition has not improved, they return to the same doctor and receive ANOTHER prescription for even stronger medications.

Have You Ever Experienced Something Similar?

Maybe you’re stumped because different people have told you different things. Perhaps you believe you have a neck problem, but it is a shoulder problem. It can be difficult to pinpoint the source of a problem in the neck and shoulders, causing people to postpone deciding what to do to help relieve their pain. Worse, many people simply accept it as “part of life,” as if it were natural or “had to” be that way.

Do You Have This Feeling?

Here Are Seven Additional Reasons Why Neck or Shoulder Pain May Be Lingering Longer Than It Should

1. You expected it to disappear on its own, but it didn’t.

2. You saw a doctor, who advised you to take medications and relax. Your neck and shoulders continued to pain after the medicines left your system, therefore they didn’t help.

3. You simply accepted the fact that everyone experiences neck and shoulder pain as they age after hearing from a family member or acquaintance.

4. Earlier, you attempted to acquire assistance from other medical professionals or a physical therapist, but nothing they said or did seem to be of any use.

5. You’ve tried TENS machines and heating pads, but they didn’t do you any good.

6. Your neck or shoulder pain was so awful that you felt it would be a good idea to relax, but it still annoys you every day.

7. To alleviate the agony, you underwent a couple of “massages,” but all they accomplished was relax and make you feel nice. They did nothing to permanently stop the discomfort.

If any of these have happened to you – we would love to help you by inviting you to book a call to talk with one of our Physical Therapists to find out what can be done to help you. You have tried some or all of them means that we now know what doesn’t work, bringing us one step closer to discovering what DOES. Following that, people frequently question us:

What Can You Do to Relieve Shoulder and Neck Pain?

You can attempt the following four things:

1. You must first decide whether or not to seek assistance. Because they believe the pain will “go away with time,” so many people put off seeking treatment for their neck and shoulder pain. Yet, after six months, they’re still putting up with it, and either nothing has changed or the discomfort has gotten worse.

2. PERFECT your workouts. Exercises that are done in the proper order and progression are one of the best ways to reduce shoulder and/or neck pain. The right exercises recommended to you by a physical therapist will assist in reducing pain, restoring your mobility quickly, and ensuring that the issues won’t return anytime soon.

3. Never sleep or sit in an uncomfortable position: Ever had a stiff neck in the morning? Or did your shoulders feel tense after a long day of sitting? That’s because one of the worst things you can do for your neck or shoulders is to sit or sleep in an uncomfortable position. You would benefit much from being offered the appropriate exercises to strengthen your muscles for better posture in addition to receiving hands-on care. You could return to being active and healthy as soon as possible with this.

4. Receive physical therapy that is “hands-on” and authentic. Physical therapy is helpful for people with neck and shoulder pain. It’s among the most prevalent issues we encounter at Athletic Synergy. Physiotherapy can help you return to living the life you deserve as soon as possible if your neck and/or shoulder pain is interfering with your ability to perform your job, prevents you from sleeping, keeps you from staying active, threatens your independence, or prevents you from enjoying time with family and friends.
