The Golden Triangle

3 Peaks of Mastering the Game We All Love

I had a very interesting conversation recently….

Somebody asked me whats the best way to get better at golf?

Seems like a simple question right?

Well that depends on where you are coming from….

The basics are the basics. You need to first get comfortable with the game, the terminology, and the strategy.

From there, the Golden Triangle can be utilized.

All sides of the triangle are to be considered seperate, but equal, while overlapping…

I know what you’re thinking, that makes no sense. Let me explain!

–Skilled Instruction– High level skilled instruction is clearly and obviously a main component of high level golf. Matching with an instructor who understands golf performance, tendencies, and leverages technological advances is your best bet. One cannot advance in skill, technique, or error omission without constant review and optimization in bio-mechanics.

–Equipment Fitting– Who doesn’t want a new driver? But really the right equipment for the right person is key. Angles, alignments, shafts, and club profiles are way more important than brands, models, or marketing messages. Being fit into the right equipment for your body is essential to success. This does not mean go get “fit” at your local sporting good store by 19 yr old Johnny (who just wants commission on this years new driver). Find a reputable fitter who knows the game, and preferably fits multiple brands. The right clubs can be game changing.

–Performance Training– Often the misunderstood piece of the puzzle because its the least sexy. The modern day golf game has evolved, and you can see the best golfers in the world training like athletes. Taking on the athlete mindset as it comes to fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle habits is equally as important to the other pieces of the triangle. Strength, Power, and Speed are the new attributes of the modern day golfer.

The right body optimization with the right swing, and the right clubs, can be considered lethal in todays game.

As previously mentioned all aspects of the triangle are separate, but equal.
